Chapter 44: Chi Huan Looked at Him as if She Knew Him for the First Time
She was finally quiet. He said in a deep and hoarse voice, “I’ll turn myself in.” His voice was low. “You can sue me.”
Turn himself in?
Chi Huan raised her head and looked straight at him.
Before he said that, she never thought about ending this matter by leaving it unsettled. Of course, even if he said so, she had to do something.
The man kneeled on the carpet with his legs by the end of the bed. His handsome face showed no sign of emotion, nor did he look messed up. There wasn’t any trace of panic in his cold and hoarse voice as well.
Chi Huan stared at him for a long time.
He kept kneeling there, still, in her silent stare and he didn’t say anything either, as if he was waiting for her judgment. He didn’t seem like he was going to explain anything, just staying silent.
She got out of the quilt and stepped on the carpet barefoot; she walked towards the end of the bed and sat down in front of him.
Her long hair was a mess, so was the shirt on her, which obviously belonged to the man. Her eyelashes were wet with tears and her voice was hoarse because of her crying, screaming and begging for mercy. These all indicated that she was tortured last night.
She tried her best to adjust her breath and then spoke calmly, “Tell me, why did you do that?”
He still kept his head down. “Sorry.”
“Sorry? Do you think a sorry can make up for it? Will a sorry undo what happened or get my hymen back as if you never raped me?”
The man was quiet for a few seconds and then said calmly, “I can’t make it up to you. So you should sue me.”
There’s no way to compensate. Only punishment would work.
Chi Huan looked at him coldly. “I’m asking you why.”
He looked up at her. “Does that matter?”
“There’s a phrase called ‘die in unrest.’ It means that the dead won’t rest in peace unless they know how they died.”
A few seconds later, he replied to her in a low and flat voice, “Last night I drank alcohol with an aphrodisiac and I wasn’t myself.”
Her voice was cold and ironic. “Are you impotent?”
Mo Shiqian’s eyes turned sullen and he looked at her. “Are you sure you want to talk about this?”
Her cute face looked very indifferent. “Do normal men have to take that kind of medicine? Right, I remember now, you could get erect, but you just turned floppy very quickly. That’s why you had to take an aphrodisiac, right? You could only last for a few minutes. No wonder your fiancée left you for Tang Yueze.”
Chi Huan was aware that her words would hurt both him and herself… but there was no other way to lash out her anger when she saw that the man didn’t seem to be regretful at all even though he was still kneeling on the floor.
The man felt like there was something trampling on both sides of his head. A few seconds later, he found his voice again but he still sounded hoarse, “I’m sorry, but since I’ve forced you several times and committed the felony, I don’t mind doing it again if you’ve really forgotten how you begged me to stop last night. Then you’ll see if I can only last for a few minutes when you are conscious.”
Chi Huan looked at the kneeling man while biting her lips. She clenched her fingers tightly, and her anger was out of control. “You can take whatever medicine you want but why didn’t you go to your fiancée? Why did you come to me?”
There didn’t seem to be any change in his tone. “She wasn’t willing. I was in the tub for an hour, and I thought I was okay but then you called me and ordered me to come here.”
He agreed to come over because, for one thing, he had overestimated his own endurance and thought that he was fine, for the other, she lost her temper and had threatened him with her status on the phone; but those subtle and vague thoughts he had about her couldn’t be ruled out from affecting his mind either.
Chi Huan remembered it too. Last night when she called him, he told her that he didn’t feel well and he would have someone else come over in his place.
However, at that time, she was thinking that probably there wasn’t going to be any chance for them to meet again, so she wanted to give him the gift face to face. Plus the alcohol messed with her and made her unreasonable.
“She wasn’t willing, so you thought I was willing? She’s your fiancée, but you came to rape me instead of having s*x with her?”
The man’s handsome face looked quite calm. His eyes were as deep as an ancient well and nobody could tell what he was thinking about. “Maybe I had wanted to do it ever since I saw you change your clothes that time.”
Chi Huan was almost stunned. She looked at him and didn’t know what to say.
When she finally pulled herself together, she slapped him in the face again.
She said coldly, “Mo Shiqian, are you really not worried because you think I don’t dare to let others know that I was raped?”
He said in a flat tone, “Whoever rapes a woman by violence, coercion or other means shall be sentenced for fixed-term imprisonment of no less than three years but no more than ten years. If you still want to decently get married, I can make sure very few people get to know about this matter. Mo Xigu and any media outlets will know the least about it. In return, you must make sure that my sentence will be cut by half.”
Chi Huan looked at this man in disbelief.
How could he talk about the prison terms so calmly and logically at this moment as if there was nothing to worry about?
“How dare you ask me for that? Mo Shiqian, if I really don’t care about anything and made this public, my dad can keep you in prison for ten years.”
He laughed a little and said lightly, “The crime of raping, if I don’t admit it, it’s hard to tell who would win the lawsuit. Young Miss, the camera in the hallway must show that you opened the door for me, and your phone call records would show that you called me. I did force you last night, but it’s believable if I tell the court that you committed adultery with me before your wedding.”
Chi Huan looked at him and didn’t know what to say for a long time.
She had a pain in her chest that rolled with anger because of his words, but she was aware that what he said made sense.
If he wouldn’t admit it, he could totally do what he just said, even if her father was the mayor. If this matter went public, even though she would win the lawsuit, her reputation would be so badly affected.
Chi Huan could barely believe him. “Are you really willing to let it go? In that case, I’ll have a decent wedding and you will take a year and a half in prison.”
He said calmly, “I promised your father to keep you safe before you find someone to take care of you for the rest of your life. I promised to protect you from any harm but I hurt you already and it can’t be changed. So the only thing I can do is to minimize the aftermath. Besides, I did the wrong thing so I have to take responsibility.”
The only way to keep what happened last night a secret and minimize the harm was to turn himself in.
Once it went to court, the media would know. Then her marriage, her future and everything she had would be badly damaged, even though she was the victim.
Chi Huan looked at him as if she was knowing him for the first time.
The sky was dark and it started to rain again. The raindrops were blown onto the window, making cracking noises.
She turned her head to look out.
She wouldn’t marry Mo Xigu – this idea had never been clear in her mind, but it had been there behind the mist a long time ago.
She knew that she wasn’t going to marry Mo Xigu the moment she saw Mo Shiqian lying beside her.
It’s just that she didn’t feel upset but instead felt rather relieved.
It seemed as if the wedding had become a burden to her since some time ago, instead of an expectation.
