Chapter 52: Mo Shiqian, Are You Despising Me?
Mm…
The porridge was surprisingly tasty.
Because of the pressure from the man and the very good taste of the porridge, Chi Huan really behaved herself and finished a bowl of porridge.
Mo Shiqian poured her a glass of water and tucked her in and then left the bedroom quietly.
Chi Huan was tired and sick, so she fell asleep very quickly.
Chi Huan’s purse was in the living room and her phone was in it. Now it was vibrating.
He ignored it.
Until his phone on the tea table started to vibrate, too.
He went to get the phone and looked at the name on the screen. He smiled and slid his finger across to answer the phone.
Mo Xigu kept his voice low on the phone, “Mo Shiqian.”
“Mr. Mo, is there anything wrong?
“Where is Chi Huan right now?”
Mo Shiqian moved his long legs and walked over to the French windows. He slipped one hand in his pocket and looked down outside. “What for?”
Mo Xigu was quiet for half a second. He could feel that Mo Shiqian’s attitude towards him had subtly changed. The change was subtle because it was enough for only him to notice.
“She didn’t go back to her apartment or the Chi family home. Neither her agent or friends can get in touch with her,” he paused and then continued, “You took her away, so you should know where she is right now.”
Where was she?
She was in his bed.
Mo Shiqian narrowed his eyes. “She got wet in the rain last night. Maybe she caught a cold and she’s not feeling well.
Got wet in the rain…
It did rain last night.
Sitting in his study, Mo Xigu put more strength into his fingers holding on to the phone. It suddenly occurred to him what she had said—
“You could love her, but you shouldn’t have lied to me. I’m disappointed in you, Xigu.”
She certainly… knew what had happened last night.
His throat felt tight and his voice became hoarse. “Where is she now?”
Mo Shiqian smiled lightly. “Mr. Mo, it seems that you always care about those whom you shouldn’t care about.”
The mockery was pretty clear, even if there were no strong words in his sentence. Mo Xigu’s face turned sullen. “Mo Shiqian.”
“Mr. Mo, rather than caring about Chi Huan, it would probably be better for you to think about how to deal with the marriage between Su Yabing and Yang Hao, and the disagreement between your mother and your girlfriend. She is the woman you chose.”
Mo Xigu didn’t reply but his slightly rapid breathing could be heard.
Mo Shiqian moved his lips and lowered his voice by half pitch, saying in order with a low tone, “Even if you regret it, you can only take it back. Chi Huan liked you, but there was nothing more than that. She wanted to marry you so much because she thought you were a man who could resist temptation and wouldn’t lie to her…”
Mo Shiqian said this with a smile, which made it sound like a casual mockery. “And now, you’re no longer such a person to her. She won’t turn back to you, so… you’d better not try to take her back.”
The phone call ended.
Mo Shiqian stood in front of the French windows, watching the falling rain outside the glass.
Before he turned around, another call rang through.
“Mr. Chi.”
“Is Chi Huan staying with you?”
“Yes.”
“How is she?”
“She’s sick and doesn’t feel well. She’s sleeping.”
“Where are you two now?”
He raised his eyes and his tone didn’t change. “At my apartment.”
Chi An was quiet for a few seconds. “What do you mean?”
“Just as you know.”
“When did it happen?”
“This morning.”
Another momentary pause. Chi An then slowly said, “I remember when you had just returned to the US. I told you that I thought you were promising and asked if you want to pursue my daughter but you said that you had a fiancée.”
“Things have changed.”
“Okay Shiqian. Since I trust you enough to let you protect her, I can also trust you enough to be her man. Don’t let me down.”
“I will take care of her.”
…
Chi Huan had slept for an entire day and night in a blur.
When it was time for her medicine and meals, she would be woken up and fed the medicine and meals by the man.
At first she had a temper, but a few times later she knew it wouldn’t work. If she was tough, he could be tougher. If she didn’t follow what he said, she would suffer after all.
Therefore, she could only have the food and take the medicine every time she was woken up, even if she had grievances.
The next day, Doctor Fang brought her another bag of I.V drip, and by the time of dinner, she had a much better appetite. Yet, what annoyed her was that Mo Shiqian didn’t allow her to eat in the bedroom. He insisted that she should eat in the dining room.
She still looked pale. “I’m tired and I don’t have any strength.”
He snatched the quilt and reached out his arms. “I can carry you there.”
Chi Huan still didn’t move. “It’s comfortable in bed, and it’s warm.”
It was indeed cold, but there was heating throughout the whole apartment. It wouldn’t feel cold, even only in pajamas.
The man said lightly, “It’ll leave the smell of food if you eat in the bedroom.”
Chi Huan, “…”
She fell into the bed and covered her head with the quilt. “I won’t eat then. I don’t want to eat anyway, you’ve made me all this time.”
Mo Shiqian didn’t say anything. He just snatched the quilt and threw it aside. Then he dragged the woman in bed into his arms and carried her out of the bedroom. “You also need to take a shower and wash your hair after dinner.”
“I don’t have clean clothes to change into.”
The man said lightly, “You will stink if you don’t shower.”
“Mo Shiqian, are you despising me?”
In Chi Huan’s perspective, she was a woman after all, and she had a temper. He could make her take pills and meals because she knew it was for her own good even if she didn’t want to.
However, now he was despising her… she was really mad!
The man was still cool and calm. “Your hair is greasy.”
Chi Huan was angrier than before. She had washed her hair the night when she was caught in the rain. It was just one night that had passed. How could it be greasy?
She thought this way, but she couldn’t help but touch her hair.
Mo Shiqian looked at her movement which she probably didn’t even notice. She was muddled but cute. He couldn’t help smiling.
Chi Huan made a serious face. “My hair is clean.”
The man put her on the chair in the dining room. “Eat.”
She humphed, and took the chopsticks to start eating.
Although she was forced to eat something by Mo Shiqian these past two days, she didn’t have much but her appetite had now come back little by little, probably because she was getting better.
There were all kinds of dishes on the table and they looked nice. The smell could make anyone hungry.
She tasted the fish, which was very fresh. She couldn’t help asking, “Where did you buy all the food from? They’re really good.”
The porridge she had yesterday was also very good.
It was a lot better than the takeaway she ordered.
Mo Shiqian was spooning a mouthful of soup. He glanced at her when hearing this and then said in a flat tone, “Do they look like takeaways?”
Chi Huan stared at him while biting the chopsticks. “If they are not takeaways… did you cook them?”
She never cooked. When she was at home, she would either order takeaway or ask the Chi family’s maid to cook for her. Therefore, it never occurred to her that Mo Shiqian could cook.
The man didn’t even give her a look this time. “Just eat.”
