Chapter 8: Terra Bear

Li Jiye didn’t manage to catch the Tauren leader’s words after he left.
He galloped with the Shadow Wind Steps for nearly an hour before slowing down. If he hadn’t been injured by the Tauren leader when breaking through the formation back there, he wouldn’t have dared to stop now.
“I underestimated the Taurens’ combat skills… Those Tier 2 warriors actually displayed 120% of their strength. I’ve really underestimated my enemies…”
Blood was still flowing incessantly from his waist and abdomen. The Tauren leader was probably above Tier 3, and he guessed that he was just a stone’s throw away from being a Tier 4 warrior. Li Jiye had already exhausted Shadow Wind Steps by breaking through the siege just now, and although he had been hurt by a horn just now, fortunately, the Tauren hadn’t touched the Tier 4 threshold. Otherwise, he would probably be dead by now.
“That’s strange…”
Li Jiye suddenly returned to his senses at this moment. Ever since he stepped into this valley in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range, he had sensed how eerily quiet this place was. Such a dense forest leading to Glimmer City, or even the common sites around Demonic Beast Mountain Range, would usually have random bird calls or some traces of low-level demonic beasts. However, ever since he stepped into this rugged valley, he hadn’t heard or seen any traces of demonic beasts.
A chill ran down his spine.
“I heard that the territorial consciousness of high-level demonic beasts is extremely strong… Low-level demonic beasts usually don’t frequent their territory… Don’t tell me I’m standing on the territory of a high-level demonic beast, am I?”
He immediately became vigilant and had his eyes peeled. He covered his wound and poured a bottle of healing potion into his mouth and then sat with his back leaning on a rocky wall that protruded upward.
Although the healing potion was very effective, it only targeted minor injuries. His wound had been inflicted by the Tauren leader, who was almost Tier 4, and although he had relied on his combat instincts to summon the surrounding elements to help defend him, this injury was still extremely serious. It wasn’t fatal, but it would greatly affect his mobility.
Feeling the healing potion slowly turn into a hot air current in his stomach, Li Jiye released his grip on his abdomen, and a very hideous wound immediately revealed itself.
“Ssss…”
He clenched his teeth, endured the pain, and tore off a piece of cloth to wrap up the wound. Then, he closed his eyes and spilled his Wind Element into the air.
He was using the power of the element to detect the surrounding environment. If he found any threatening alien elements around, he would instantly leave the meditative state and wake up.
As time passed, his Wind Element that was scattered in the air suddenly broke away from his mental control.
From a meditating state, Li Jiye suddenly jolted awake and turned around to survey his surroundings alertly. Just a few moments ago, the elemental power in his body had suddenly issued an early warning. A very powerful Earth Element seemed to be gradually approaching from that direction.
“Oh, no! In my current state, I won’t be able to fend off the enemy easily… No, I have to find a way to escape first.”
With that said, he forced the energy in his body and tightened his muscles again. Turquoise waves on his legs immediately pushed him towards the valley exit.
But just as he was about to escape from the torturous land, he suddenly realized that a very thick earth wall had risen out of the empty ground right in front of him. This earth wall happened to block his escape path, and he could only stop and stand still.
“Have I been discovered…?.”
With a bad premonition in his heart, he turned to look behind him and saw a very powerful demonic beast standing on the commanding heights of the valley.
This demonic beast looked like a brown bear, but its body size seemed several times larger than an ordinary brown bear. Besides having blades where its two front paws should be, it also had two extra pieces of polished-rock arm scythes.
As soon as this demonic beast appeared, Li Jiye felt the Earth Element around him suddenly go into overdrive. He subconsciously squeezed his fists and managed to stutter with trembling lips,
“T—Terra Bear…”
The Terra Bear wasn’t necessarily an aggressive demonic beast, but its sense of territorial ownership was much stronger than any other Tier 3 demonic beast.
This was exactly why Li Jiye hadn’t found any traces of other demonic beasts in this area.
The extremely powerful Terra Bear stared at him with its two pairs of fierce eyes that were already gleaming slightly. Furious at Li Jiye’s intrusion into its territory, it faced upwards and gave a ferocious roar, causing the open-spaced land to tremble in sync.
Li Jiye didn’t dare to overlook this. He gritted his teeth and touched the wounds on his chest and abdomen. Although his injury had recovered a lot after meditating just now, he still didn’t have the confidence to defeat this Tier 3 overlord, the Terra Bear.
They sized each other up for a long time before the Terra Bear roared a battle cry.
The Terra Bear leaped down from the tor and brandished its claws. Two khaki claw blades of more than ten feet long shot out in Li Jiye’s direction, whooshing through the air. Li Jiye intensely watched as the blades approached him. If he was slashed by these two claw blades, or even if he was slightly touched by them, he wouldn’t be able to withstand it.
Azure-turquoise light circulated beneath him, and the Shadow Wind Steps that had already been exhausted once immediately carried him around nimbly. The Terra Bear’s claws fell into thin air, and just as Li Jiye saw it pounce back towards him, he also noticed that the Terra Bear had suddenly stopped in place. It seemed a little confused about Li Jiye’s sudden disappearance in front of its own eyes, and it took a long time to react and turn around.
“That’s it!”
With his heart leaping, Li Jiye suddenly remembered the demonic beasts course he had undergone in Polar Star Academy.
Every demonic beast had its own strengths and weaknesses. Often, if a demonic beast was extremely powerful in one aspect, it only amplified its shortcoming in another aspect.
The Terra Bear was renowned for being a Tier 3 demonic beast with superb strength and destructive power. However, its reaction ability and speed were much weaker than its other abilities.
At the thought of this, a gradual smirk appeared on Li Jiye’s face. He summoned Shadow Wind Steps again and snapped his fingers towards the sky in the next second. Two emerald green leaves filled with energy waves flew from his fingertips and shot out towards the two big eyes of the Terra Bear.
An occasional loud angry roar would sound in the valley. In the next 10 minutes, the roars grew in hostility, but then, all of a sudden, everything fell silent.
